World’s Most Expensive Barbie Dolls

The first Barbie dolls were launched by Mattel, Inc. in 1959. It was made in Japan that the clothing was hand-stitched by home workers.

Ruth Handler created the first Barbie Doll, that was designed based on a German doll named Bild Lili, a comic strip character. Since then, the doll has become the most popular doll especially in her fashions and characters. 


Having been around that long, Barbie’s been created in many editions, while people start to collect them, some editions worth for more than thousand dollars.


Here are the list of the most expensive Barbie dolls in the world:

Barbie No. 1 – $8,000
The first Barbie doll is an expensive classic Barbie that truly has a vintage historic touch. The doll comes in a ponytail and zebra-striped bathing suit. It’s definitely for those who like to have the nostalgia moments with the classic of the doll.

De Beers 40th Anniversary Barbie – $85.000
On her 40th birthday, a jeweler De Beers designed the most expensive Barbie doll of the time. This luxurious Barbie wears a gown that is decorated in 160 diamonds with 18k white gold jewelries. The most interesting appearance in this Barbie, is that she was not created as the iconic blonde but more like a raven-haired beauty.

Barbie and the Diamond Castle promotional Barbie – $95,361
This doll was first time launched in Mexico City for a new Barbie movie “Barbie and the Diamond Castle” promotion. The doll was not created for sale but has been valued at 1 million pesos. The doll features a total of 318 diamonds of 20.66 carats, 44 of the stones decorate her luxurious gown while the rest adorn her white gold jewelries.

Canturi Barbie – $540,780
To coincide with the launch of the Barbie Basics Collection, which is a line of urban socialite dolls that each with a different hairstyle and skintone and wearing her own unique Little Black Dress. Thus Mattel has engaged internationally celebrated jewelry designer Stefano Canturi to create the most expensive Barbie ever made

The necklace features 3 carats of white diamonds arranged in a Cubist style and surrounding a collectable 1.00ct square emerald (cut) pink diamond from Australia’s Argyle Mine. A ring adorned with another diamond decorates Barbie’s right hand. surrounding a rare pink diamond. The centerpiece is emerald cut and weighs in at 1 carat.
